Jose Ortega’s Cantonese/English Bilingual program is available to native Cantonese speakers in kindergarten through third grade. It is an Early Exit program, with students transitioning to the General Education program at the fourth grade level. Taught by teachers certified in Bilingual Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (BCLAD), students learn English at an accelerated pace from teachers who are fluent in both Cantonese and English.
Before the end of third grade, teachers identify students who will need additional English language learning support. These English Language Learner (ELL) students then continue to receive this additional instruction to ensure their smooth transition into fourth grade.
